Gracious and easy-going hosts. Helpful and knowledgeable about local history, food and activities. The house is gorgeous, tastefully filled with interesting antiques. One could spend an extra day just perusing the walls and bookcases. We stayed in the Gold Room which was ornate, but not kitschy. It was very comfortable with a nice high four-poster and plenty of pillows and comfy comforters. The bathroom was spotless with everything you need, i.e. hairdryer, lotions and robes. A coffee maker and refrigerator in the room was a pleasant surprise for a B&B. The breakfast was delicious and home-cooked. muffins, fruit, eggs benedict - all yum! The Hillard House is right by the river and walkable to the city center, restaurants and shops. After a long drive, it was so nice to walk along the new River Common and into town for a delightful dinner at Cafe Toscano. Our stay was so lovely, it made us want to return to Wilkes-Barre just to stay there again.

Hillard House is the best place to spend your money on. The hosts are so gracious. We arrived very late and they stayed up for us. When we couldn't make it for breakfast they sent a tray to our room. The food is to die for. Their breakfasts might consist of Eggs Benedict, or Gingerbread pancakes. They serve juice, coffee, muffins, main course, fruit bowl. You won't get that anywhere else. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The beds are very comfortable. Each room has an air conditioner so there is no problem with rooms being hot. The suite has a wonderful big jacuzzi tub. The antiques are lovely and Gordon and Cecilia make you feel right at home. We went to New York City one day and I didn't know anything about it. Gordon bought me a guide book to help me! Cecilia graciously shared her gingerbread pancake recipe with me. This stay has made me a B&B lover forever!

We stayed in the suite which was extremely spacious and comfortable, beyond our expectations. Hillard House is a beautifully decorated, comfortable, quiet and peaceful. Cecilia and Gordon are the perfect hosts and the breakfast was outstanding. Fortunately for us, we will be frequent visitors as our son is a freshman at the nearby college. After staying in a local hotel multiple times, we are ecstatic that we found this historical gem!

My husband and I repeated our visit to the Hillard House over the 4th of July weekend. We've been to several B&B's over the years and this is our favorite!! The owners really make you feel at home and their level of hospitality is out of this world. Upon arrival, my husband took a nap while I enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese platter in the sitting room. There are complimentary bottles of water in the room. Plus, they have complimentary pre-stamped postcards for you to send to your friends and family. My husband was performing at the Fireworks festival and didn't arrive until later that evening on the 4th. Since it was a holiday, our hosts, Cecilia and Gordon, saved leftovers from their cookout for us to eat that evening upon our arrival!! This blew our mind! Thank you Hillard House for going above and beyond. We look forward to staying again next year!

Wilkes-Barre does not have a lot going on, but if you're in the area and looking for a place to stay, I'd rank Hillard House with other upscale B&B's in more touristy locations. It's everything you expect from a B&B, and the breakfasts are fantastic. The hosts are very nice and helpful, too. They do have wifi but we could not get it to work in our room. I'm sure if we had told our hosts, they would have helped us, but we didn't bother.

What a great place with wonderful hosts. We had a spacious room with a large bath. Both were clean and well lit. Had gingerbread pancakes the one day and eggs benedict the next. Both were accompanied by some delicious pork products and good coffee. The owners had a little spread each afternoon with wine and cheese and filled us in on the local history. When he found out I wanted to visit the Stegmaier brewery and it was closed he picked me up a case of beer and some homemade kielbasa to take home. Nice touch. Highly recommended.
